Out of the dialogue developed in recent years between the Foundation and Ticino’s local institutions – aimed at identifying and helping to mitigate key local challenges – came the collaboration on the MomòRide project, a two-year inter-company carpooling initiative launched in 2025 and officially unveiled on 21 January 2026.
The project is promoted in partnership with the municipalities of Chiasso, Balerna, and Novazzano, with the Regional Development Authority of Mendrisiotto and Basso Ceresio (ERS-MB), with the Pian Faloppia Economic Development Hub, and with the operational support of Mobitrends. MomòRide promotes shared mobility solutions with the goal of reducing traffic and related disruptions in the Mendrisiotto area, with a view to gradually extending it to other parts of the Canton of Ticino. Through a dedicated app, the project enables the creation of inter-company carpools among employees of businesses in the promoting municipalities.
The initiative aims to contribute concretely to reducing pollution and road congestion, while encouraging the spread of a sustainable and collaborative mobility model.
The Foundation takes an active role in the project both as a promoting partner – engaging its own staff and lastminute.com colleagues as users of the pilot – and by providing strategic and operational support in communications, including the production of graphic materials and the identification and engagement of stakeholders.
The joint commitment on communications is a key factor in the project’s effectiveness during the two-year pilot phase, with the goal of reaching an ever-growing number of companies and workers and encouraging use of the app. Within this framework, the Foundation also closely follows the project’s day-to-day operations, in coordination with the other promoters.
The long-term goal is to consolidate MomòRide as a successful initiative, capable of attracting further municipalities in the Canton and encouraging additional companies to take part in its continuation beyond the pilot phase.
The cooperation between the various promoting partners has proved effective, drawing strength from the complexity and richness of the diverse stakeholders involved.
